Research Methodology in Social Science
Section I

Social Science Research: Meaning, objectives and types. Process of Research; Approaches to research : Quantitative & Qualitative, Formulation of research problem. Major sources of data: national and international data system. Sampling design: data collection techniques. Measurement and scaling techniques. Qualitative methods of research: case study, narratives, ethnographic records, content analysis.

 

Section II

Measures of central tendency: Mean, median and mode. Measures of dispersion: Range and standard deviation. Simple correlation. Regression: two variable regression, assumptions ey formulae and interpretation of regression results. Testing of hypothesis: large sample and small tests (t-test); Analysis of variance (one way and two way only), Chi-square test of independence.

 

Section III

Computer system architecture: steps in problem solving on computer: A brief review of DOS commands and Window structure of a package of a statistical-econometric package.

 

Section IV

Report writing on current problem: problem definition, data collection, statistical analysis of data and interpretation, conclusions and policy implications.
